SALKANTAY TO MACHUPICCHU 7 DAYS / 6 NIGHTS

This is a great Andean adventure within magnificent mountain scenery, extraordinary Inca ruins and exotic subtropical forest, one of the best Andean experience available to anyone.
It is an 7 days trek through the Vilcabamba range. The trek leads us by a spectacular pass between the Salcantay and Humantay glaciers cloud peaks, and then descends through lush greenery among flowering trees and colorful orchids. At the last part of the trek we will join the main Inca Trail which leads us to the citadel of Machu Picchu.

Itinerary:

Day 1 Cusco - Mollepata - Marcocasa:
Leave Cusco by Bus, drive over Tika-Tika pass with the first view of the Salcantay and Humantay peaks in the horizon. . Visit Inca Ruins of Tarawasi (7,778.00 ft). Arrive early afternoon to Mollepata (9,512 ft.) (1.00 pm). Short trekking to the first camp. (2 hours of trekking). Overnight camping at Marcoccasa (10,496 ft). (L,D).

Day 2 Marcocasa - Cruzpata - Soraypampa:
The trail climbs for about one hour until Cruzpata (10,660ft) where we get the first view of the magnificent Mt. Humantay. We continue past Oncopata, lunch at Checchicancha (11,808ft) located in a flat with wonderful view of Mt.Yannatay and Humantay. The trail goes up until Soraypampa where we will set camp (12,815ft). Campsite with the spectacular view of the Mt. Salcantay and Humantay. 6 to 7 hours of trekking (B,L,D).

Day 3 Soraypampa - Incachiriasca - Sisaypampa:
After breakfast, an early start trek uphill to Salcantaypampa below the terminal moraine of Mt. Salcantay. The Salcantay peak (19,811ft) dominate the views of the all this day. We continue our hike up over Incachiriasca pass (15,252ft). Beautiful view of two glacier lakes. Now the trail is going down until our next camp in Sisaypampa.(13,776 ft) (B,L,D). 7-8 hours of trekking.

Day 4 Sisaypampa - Pampacahua - Paucarcancha:
The trek continues down until the end of the valley where turns north and enters into the Pampacahua valley, with an amazing Inca water channel and some agriculture fields along its edges. We continue walk down and then up to cross a short pass until our next camp in Paucarcancha our first Inca ruins in the way (10,332 ft) (B;L;D). 5-6 hour trekking.

Day 5 Paucarcancha - Huallabamba - Llulluchapampa:
After breakfast start the trek down trough an Inca trail until the community of Huayllabamba, from where we meet the classic Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, we ascent close to Huayruro stream until 3 Piedras blancas where we will have a lunch. We will cross a native forest with many native trees as Uncas and Chachacomos. Continue to our campsite in Llulluchapampa (12,300ft). View of the Mt. Huayanay. (B,L,D) Trekking 5-6 hours.

Day 6 Llulluchapampa - Phuyupatamarca:
Trek uphill until Warmiwañusca pass (13,776ft) affords a magnificent view of the trail ahead of us. We descent over the mountain down to Pacaymayo valley to the ascent again to the ruins of Runkurakay and the second pass (13,284ft). From this pass we hike down to the site of Sayacmarca through the elfin forest and a magnificent stone made trail. A beautiful overlooking of Aobamba valley , it afford a leisure walk down with an amazing view of the Mt. Pumasillo and Salcantay. Camp in Phuyupatamarca. Trekking 7-8 hours.

Day 7 Machupicchu - Cusco:
After an exploration of Phuyupatamarca and its sacred water fountains we hike down by steps through the Amazon cloud forest until the Inca site of Intipata and Wiñay Wayna where we have lunch. Explore this Inca site and follow the Inca trail until the entrance trough Inti Punku sun gate with a magnificent view of Machu Picchu (B;L).
Trekking 5-7 hours.
We highly recommend to be one more night in Aguas Calientes and visit the city the next day.
Visit to the ancient citadel. Train back to Cusco, arrive and transfer to Hotel. (B;L). End of our service.

Included:

  • Orientation meeting in Cusco (previous to departure date).
  • Transfer put in and put off All balance meals during the trekking (7 days/6 nights), including snacks.
  • All common camping gear: Two men mountain tent, mattress, kitchen dishes, kitchen tent, dinner tent, toilet tent , table, chairs. Cook.
  • Horse and mules for the whole equipment.
  • Porters for the whole camping equipment including personal luggage (02 porters for one client).
  • First aid kit with Oxygen.
  • Professional bilingual guide, 01 assistant per each 11 clients.

  • Bus from Machu Picchu to Aguas Calientes train station. 6th day).
  • Bus up and down to Machu Picchu (7th day).

  • Backpacker train from Machu Picchu to Cusco.
